Harry Kane scored a Boxing Day hat-trick to topple Alan Shearer’s 22-year long-standing record that Shearer set for Blackburn Rovers in 1995.

Harry Kane smashed the net for the 37th time in 2017, breaking Alan Shearer’s longstanding record of 36 goals, which he achieved with that first strike against Southampton on Boxing Day. The Tottenham talisman didn’t stop there; he went on to notch his sixth hat-trick of the year, setting a new record for the most three-goal hauls in a calendar year.

This remarkable achievement means Kane ended the year with the highest number of goals across all European leagues (55), surpassing legendary hunters Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. It’s the first time in nine years that a player outside of Messi or Ronaldo has claimed the top goal scorer spot for the calendar year.

At just 24 years old, Harry Kane is determined to carry on this record-breaking form into the coming seasons, showing he’s a force to be reckoned with in football.

Even Alan Shearer paid tribute, taking to Twitter to congratulate Kane on his milestone.
