Week 15 Preview

Mamelodi Sundowns star defender Kwanda Mngonyama is embracing a fresh start and a golden opportunity at Cape Town City.

After spending three seasons gaining valuable experience on loan at Maritzburg United, the talented 24-year-old was called back to Sundowns at the start of the season.

Unfortunately, the former junior international centre-back has been sidelined so far this season, not featuring in any matches for the Brazilians.

However, Cape Town City wasted no time and officially announced his signing on Friday morning, bringing renewed hope for the defender’s career.

In an exciting announcement on their social media, the club revealed: “City is thrilled to welcome Kwanda Mngonyama from Mamelodi Sundowns for an undisclosed fee.”

Head coach Benni McCarthy expressed his enthusiasm about the move, highlighting the immense potential Mngonyama brings.

“The moment I heard there was a chance to bring Kwanda to City, I was over the moon,” says McCarthy. “Mngonyama is a true soldier and one of South Africa’s brightest defensive talents in years. As we build for the future, securing him is a crucial step. I eagerly look forward to working closely with him and unlocking his full potential.”
