Toulouse stunned many with their commanding performance against Toulon last Sunday, scoring 30 points past a star-studded team. Prior to that, their form had been patchy, including two recent European Cup defeats to Ulster, so this victory has given them valuable momentum heading into the new year.
Gael Fickou has emerged as a crucial player for Toulouse, opening the scoring early with a brilliant intercept try. His defensive skills and leadership in organising the backline are often overlooked but were pivotal in last weekend’s win. The team showed determination and tactical awareness to secure a vital bonus point victory and consolidate their lead at the top of the Top 14.
To retain their position, Toulouse must bring similar inspired performances this weekend. Although their pack is formidable, the backs will need to be at their best to cope with Stade’s attacking threat.
