Borussia Dortmund’s gifted midfielder Mario Gotze will unfortunately be out of action for the rest of 2017, following an ankle injury sustained during the electrifying 4-4 draw against Schalke this past Saturday.
This heartbreaking setback happened during the second half at Signal Iduna Park, where Dortmund saw a commanding 4-0 lead slip away after the break. Gotze, who netted his first goal for Dortmund since December 2016 in this match, had earlier fought back bravely after being sidelined for five months due to a metabolic disorder.
As a Germany national team star who famously scored the winning goal in the 2014 World Cup final against Argentina, this injury is a tough blow just as he seemed to be hitting top form again.
This season, Gotze had appeared as a starter 11 times across all competitions and came off the bench twice. Sadly, he is expected to miss the remaining fixtures leading up to the mid-season break.
