Philippe Coutinho has finally spoken out, calling his £142 million move to Barcelona a ‘dream come true’ as he gets ready to step on the Nou Camp turf.
The Brazilian maestro is all set to be officially unveiled at an event on Monday, signing a five-and-a-half-year contract that marks a new chapter in his stellar career with the Catalan giants.
Following the agreement of the eye-watering £142 million deal with Liverpool on Saturday, Coutinho made a quick appearance at Barcelona’s 3-0 victory over Levante on Sunday to soak up the adoration of fans and media alike.
In a heartfelt Twitter video message, Coutinho greeted the supporters, saying: “Hi Barca fans, I am already here, it is a dream come true and I hope to see you tomorrow.”
Barcelona’s coach, Ernesto Valverde, weighed in on the exciting signing, mentioning that deciding Coutinho’s role in the squad is still premature.
Speculation is rife about whether Coutinho will spearhead the attack alongside stars Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez or take on a creative midfield role, becoming the long-term successor to veteran Andres Iniesta, who is 33 years old.
Valverde praised Coutinho’s adaptable game style: “We can take advantage of his versatility. He scores and sets up goals, and going forward, he can be a vital asset playing both centrally and on the wings.”
