Lyon triumphed 2-1 in an electrifying Ligue 1 showdown on Sunday, with PSG still holding strong with an eight-point advantage at the summit.
Nabil Fekir ignited the game for Les Gones with a sensational early free kick that left goalkeeper Alphonse Areola flat-footed. PSG fought back as Layvin Kurzawa thundered in a volley to level the score.
The first half was intense with Kylian Mbappe forced off due to injury. The tension escalated when Dani Alves received a red card in the second half. But it was substitute Memphis Depay who became the hero, sealing the victory with a breathtaking strike deep into added time.
“Both teams put their heart into the 90 minutes,” said PSG coach Unai Emery. “We faced challenges but showed great character. While we controlled the game after scoring, the red card changed everything. Lyon have top players, allowing [Depay] to net the winning goal. It’s tough, but that’s football.”
Despite Lyon climbing from fourth to second place, Fekir emphasized their focus remains on securing Champions League qualification rather than catching PSG.
“We’re happy, but the season is far from over,” Fekir told Canal. “Our goal is to clinch a podium spot. PSG’s lead is big – but our focus is Champions League qualification.”
