Batsman faces bowler in front of packed cordon

Cricket South Africa has exciting news with the addition of two fresh talents, fast bowler Lungi Ngidi and batsman Khaya Zondo, to the Proteas squad set for the first three ODIs against India next month. This fresh injection promises to add new energy to the team’s lineup.

Lungi Ngidi missed out on last year’s ODI series while recovering from injury, making his return a much-anticipated boost for the team. Meanwhile, Khaya Zondo, who was previously part of the Proteas squad during the 2015 India tour but didn’t get a chance on the field, is now ready to step up and make his mark.

This squad also celebrates the comeback of seasoned players Morne Morkel and Chris Morris, who had to sit out the previous ODI series against Bangladesh due to injuries. Adding to the spin options, Tabraiz Shamsi returns as a vital second spinner.

Linda Zondi, the CSA National Selection Panel Convener, remarked, “This aligns with our Vision 2019 to carefully build the squad ahead of the ICC World Cup in England. Lungi’s exceptional performances on his T20 and Test debut show he’s ready to take on the 50-over format. Khaya has consistently stayed on the edge of selection, leading the South Africa A side in their recent campaign against the England Lions. We’re keen on giving our fringe players opportunities as we prepare for the World Cup.”

“The return of Morne and Chris also strengthens our squad as the World Cup approaches,” Zondi added.
