News flash: Manchester City has officially confirmed that Leroy Sane has sustained ankle ligament damage during their FA Cup fourth-round victory over Cardiff City.

The talented German winger had to be substituted at half-time following a heavily criticised tackle by Cardiff’s Joe Bennett.

On Monday, Manchester City revealed that scans show the 22-year-old has ligament damage. Although the duration of his recovery remains unspecified, the injury has raised concerns among fans and the football community alike.

Joe Bennett was initially shown a yellow card for the tackle, but was later sent off after receiving a second booking in the match. In an effort to make amends, Bennett took to Twitter to apologise for the incident.

Manchester City’s manager Pep Guardiola spoke up after the match, calling on referees to offer better protection to players, emphasising the importance of safety on the pitch.

“The only thing they can do is that – protect the players, because then it would not happen again,” Guardiola said. “It happened once with Leroy, then again with Brahim at the end.”

On the other hand, Cardiff’s manager Neil Warnock defended his team’s style, saying that tough challenges are “part and parcel of the game.”

The match ended 2-0 in Manchester City’s favour, with goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling securing their spot in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Leroy Sane has had a remarkable season so far, netting 11 goals and providing 14 assists across all competitions.
