Arsenal are on the verge of signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund for a fee of around £60 million, according to reports.
The transfer discussions between Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund are heating up, with reports from Sky Sports and the BBC indicating that a deal is nearly wrapped up. This exciting move could see Aubameyang don the Arsenal colours very soon.
Arsenal’s initial offer exceeded £50 million, but was turned down. However, Dortmund’s sporting director, Michael Zorc, confirmed that the Gabonese forward, aged 28, could leave should the clubs agree on a fee, which is believed to be around £60 million.
Rumours suggest that Arsenal’s striker Olivier Giroud might be involved in a swap deal, though Chelsea has also shown interest in the Frenchman.
Gunners’ manager Arsene Wenger has reassured fans that Giroud won’t be leaving unless they secure a proper replacement first.
“Arsenal have made several attempts so far [to sign Aubameyang] and they have all been rejected,” Zorc stated on Saturday.
“Either our demands are fulfilled, then there can be another transfer, or they will not be fulfilled and Aubameyang will play in Dortmund until the summer.”
In an intense match against Freiburg, Aubameyang returned to Dortmund’s starting lineup but faced mixed reactions, including boos from parts of the Signal Iduna Park crowd, with some fans displaying a banner saying: ‘No player is bigger than our club’.
