An exhilarating battle in the Sunfoil Series ended with two resilient centuries from Sarel Erwee and Dane Vilas, helping the Hollywoodbets Dolphins secure an impressive draw against the VKB Knights in Bloemfontein.
On the fourth day of the clash, the Dolphins were still trailing by 54 runs, with Vaughn van Jaarsveld and Sarel Erwee holding the crease. Van Jaarsveld was the first to go, caught for a solid 51 runs.
Sarel Erwee soon followed, dismissed by Marchant de Lange after crafting a crucial, match-saving 128.
Unfortunately, Sibz Makhanya was dismissed for a duck, but Dane Vilas paired up with Senuran Muthusamy to completely turn the game around, taking control away from the Knights.
The duo put together an impressive 179-run partnership for the fifth wicket, pushing the Dolphins’ lead to 185 runs before the game was called a draw.
Dane Vilas finished unbeaten on 102, while Muthusamy impressed with 73 not out, continuing his excellent form from the first innings.
This draw marks the Dolphins’ sixth this season, placing them fourth on the Sunfoil Series log.
Looking ahead, the Dolphins will travel to Port Elizabeth to face the Warriors from Thursday 15 to Sunday 18 February.
