Leroy Sane’s rapid return to full fitness is fantastic news for Manchester City as they gear up to face Basel on Tuesday night.
The dynamic winger had been sidelined since 28 January following an ankle ligament injury, with an initial recovery time of five weeks projected.
However, City’s manager Pep Guardiola has been pleasantly shocked at how quickly Sane is bouncing back and could see action against the Swiss giants at St Jakob-Park.
Guardiola shared his surprise ahead of the match: “I’m genuinely amazed at how fit he is already.
“He puts in a lot of effort, and even at such a young age, his professionalism is evident.”
The manager added: “While he isn’t quite at 100%, he’s made remarkable progress and is eager to contribute to the team. It’s a testament to the hard work of both the medical team and Leroy himself.”
Whether Sane will start the game remains uncertain, with Guardiola acknowledging: “He’s had only one training session so far, but at 22, he’s got youth on his side.”
In total, Sane has made 70 appearances for City, tallying 20 goals and 22 assists. This season alone, he has netted seven goals and provided ten assists in 22 matches.
