SuperSport United striker Evans Rusike has shared his exciting ambitions, revealing that he still nurses a dream of playing in Europe. He had set his sights on a move abroad even before securing his unexpected transfer to the Premiership club.
Rusike, who joined SuperSport United from Maritzburg United during the January transfer window as a replacement for Jeremy Brockie, admits the switch came as a surprise but one he welcomes with open arms.
Although the Zimbabwean forward wasn’t targeting any particular club or league at the time, he was committed to hard work, hoping to attract attention from overseas scouts. The move to SuperSport United changed the game entirely.
“It’s been great here at SuperSport, but the move did catch me off guard. I thought my transfer would happen at the end of the season, but I’m very happy with how things have turned out,” Rusike revealed in an interview with KickOff. “My plan was to focus on working hard this season and then see what opportunities came my way, with Europe definitely in my sights. When SuperSport showed interest, a big club with a history of success, I felt I could fit in perfectly and decided to make the move.”
At just 23 years old, Rusike remains optimistic that his European dream is still alive and well. He believes that playing at SuperSport has elevated his profile, especially since the team has recently competed in the CAF Confederation Cup, reaching the final.
“Joining SuperSport has taken my career to the next level. They’ve competed in continental tournaments, and that exposure motivates me to believe a move to Europe could still be in the cards in the future,” he added hopefully.
