Barcelona vs Chelsea Showdown Preview | Hollywoodbets Sports Blog

Round of 16 Preview (2nd Leg)

Get set for a high-octane UEFA Champions League quarter-finals clash as Chelsea head to the iconic Camp Nou to face Barcelona on Wednesday. The Blues know scoring is critical if they want to advance, following a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge on the 18th of February.

Since that stalemate, Barcelona have played an extra game and are showing zero signs of slowing down on their charge towards yet another La Liga triumph. Topping the league by eight points and unbeaten after 28 matches, they look an imposing force.

Under coach Ernesto Valverde, Barca have secured wins in three of their four games post the London draw, dropping points only in a 1-1 draw against Las Palmas.

During their last encounter, Chelsea’s Willian was a thorn in Barcelona’s side, hitting both posts before scoring to put the Blues ahead. Valverde is well aware the Catalans must manage the Brazilian’s threat in the return leg.

"Willian is on a scoring spree. We have to keep a close eye on him because he’s firing on all cylinders right now. This could be his best form of the season," said the Spanish coach ahead of the match.

Meanwhile, Chelsea, despite being the reigning English champions, enter this fixture in patchy form with just one win in their last three matches, including defeats to Manchester United and Manchester City.

Antonio Conte’s side were unfortunate not to clinch the first leg as Lionel Messi netted a late equaliser — his first against Chelsea in nine encounters.

The Italian boss understands the challenge ahead in Catalonia but is determined to keep Messi at bay and capitalise on their chances.

"We might face tough moments, but staying compact is key. When in possession, players must believe with all their heart and mind that they can find the net," Conte stated in Tuesday’s press briefing.

"We must stay competitive throughout the game. Progressing to the next round requires us to give our all for every single minute."

Regarding team updates, Andres Iniesta has recovered from a knock and participated in Tuesday’s training, making him available for selection. However, Barcelona will be without Denis Suarez and Nelson Semedo due to injuries.

Conte nearly has his full squad ready with only David Luiz and Ross Barkley sidelined.
