Cricket South Africa proudly extends warm congratulations to the Standard Bank Proteas for sealing an impressive victory in the Sunfoil Freedom Test Series against India, clinching the series with a match to spare!
The Proteas showcased sheer determination and skill as they triumphed over India by 135 runs, wrapping up the series 2-0 with nearly two sessions to spare in the gripping second Test at SuperSport Park. Fans can now eagerly look forward to the final clash at Bidvest Wanderers Stadium next Wednesday, where South Africa aims to complete a clean sweep against the world’s top-ranked team.
“A big shoutout to our inspirational captain, Faf du Plessis, the exceptional head coach Ottis Gibson, alongside every player and the entire management team – this win is a true testament to our collective effort,” said CSA Acting Chief Executive, Thabang Moroe.
“This series, despite the decisive victories, has been fiercely competitive between the two highest-ranked ICC teams, promising an exciting finale ahead.
The Freedom Series honours iconic leaders Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi, symbolising a tradition that transcends the sport, embodying unity and respect.
It’s particularly thrilling that emerging stars like Aiden Markram and Lungi Ngidi have made impactful contributions in their inaugural Test season, highlighting the bright future of South African cricket.”
“It’s also a proud moment for South African cricket as our under-19 team battled brilliantly to defeat the defending champions, West Indies, securing a spot in the ICC Junior World Cup quarter-finals today,” Mr Moroe added enthusiastically.
