The deadlock was broken by Saúl Niguez, who headed Atletico ahead in the second half. However, an own-goal by Stefan Savic rescued a point for Chelsea, leaving the score even.

This draw allowed Chelsea to advance to the knockout phase as runners-up in the group, while Atletico were relegated to the Europa League.

Match Highlights

The game kicked off with Chelsea applying early pressure as Davide Zappacosta unleashed a shot that sailed over the Atletico goal.

Both teams had shaky possession at times, with Fernando Torres firing a chance over the bar after sneaking into the box behind the defence.

Cesc Fabregas’ free-kick at the 15-minute mark didn’t pose a real threat, but Alvaro Morata came close with a shot just wide after receiving a clever pass from Christensen, made possible by Eden Hazard’s dummy.

Jan Oblak made a crucial save from a Morata shot in the 23rd minute following a quick free-kick assist from Victor Moses.

Atletico’s Thomas Partey shot over from a corner, and Oblak also stopped a Zappacosta effort, as the first half ended goalless.

In the second half, Griezmann’s free-kick posed no danger, while Christensen headed straight to the keeper after a Hazard cross.

Oblak saved well from a Morata header, and Filipe Luis hit the post as Chelsea’s defence was kept on edge. Courtois denied Niguez with a diving header.

At 56 minutes, Niguez nodded in from a Torres corner to put Atletico ahead.

Chelsea fought back with Christensen heading wide and Pedro nearly scoring from Moses’s assist.

In a dramatic moment at 75 minutes, Savic’s own goal levelled the match after he deflected a Hazard shot.

Though Morata and Willian missed golden opportunities, Chelsea held on for the draw.

Michy Batshuayi’s injury-time shot just missed, capping off a tense finale.

Meanwhile, Roma’s 1-0 win over Qarabag meant Chelsea finished second in the group while Atletico moved to the Europa League.
