Chelsea’s quest for a dynamic striker has reached an exciting turning point, with the Blues sealing an £18 million deal with their London rivals Arsenal for the prolific Olivier Giroud.
The Gunners, meanwhile, have set sights on securing Borussia Dortmund’s star forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who recently made the trip to London to wrap up the transfer deal.
With the off-season signing of Alexandre Lacazette, Giroud’s chances at the Emirates have been squeezed, having made only one Premier League start and featuring as a substitute in 14 other matches this season.
Initially, the Premier League champions targeted Roma’s Edin Dzeko after missing out on Alexis Sanchez, but that pursuit didn’t come to fruition.
Adding an intriguing twist to this saga, Michy Batshuayi might be loaned out to Dortmund as a replacement for Aubameyang, following doubts expressed by Blues’ manager Antonio Conte about the Belgian striker’s long-term future.
For now, Giroud was named on the bench for Arsenal’s recent trip to Swansea, showing he’s still in the squad plans but likely on his way out.
