What a turn of events! A second day straight washed out by rain meant the 2017/18 Momentum One Day Cup was shared between the Hollywoodbets Dolphins and the Warriors on Saturday.
Though the disappointment of no play on the day was felt, Dolphins coach Grant Morgan expressed pride in his team’s stellar performance.
“It’s our second final this season, and if you look at the stats and net run rates, we’ve been on top of every other team in the competition,” Morgan said confidently.
“While we couldn’t change the weather, I can honestly say we had the upper hand yesterday. Naturally, we wanted to play today, but at the end of the day, both teams walk away with a trophy, so that’s something special to celebrate.”
The Dolphins are celebrating as this marks their first ever 50-over title. The last time KwaZulu-Natal won was back in the 2001/2002 season, so clinching a share of the title is a proud milestone for both the coach and players.
Stand-in captain Keshav Maharaj added, “It’s obviously a bit disappointing that the final day was washed out, but having a trophy in the cabinet is fantastic news for us.
“Last season was tough with exits in knockout phases, and our strong statement in the RAM SLAM final has shown the competition that we are a force to be reckoned with.”
With this achievement behind them, the Dolphins are now gearing up for the Sunfoil Series clash against the VKB Knights at the Diamond Oval in Kimberley, starting 8 February.
