Our football pundit previews the NFD week 15 action kicking off Friday 15 December 2017.

This week marks the end of the NFD’s first half of the season, with Highlands Park poised on the brink of a thrilling return to the PSL. The Lions of the North have maintained the top spot, holding a solid four-point cushion over rivals. Fans were treated to a spectacular display from a high-scoring Real Kings side, who netted five goals against Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila. What surprises await us this gameweek? Let’s dive in…

Saturday 16 December
Highlands Park 11/20 | Draw 23/10 | Cape Town All Stars 52/10
Highlands Park appear unstoppable among NFD sides, their swift return to the PSL looking nearly certain. On a nine-match unbeaten streak, they’ve claimed victories in seven, including a recent 3-1 triumph over Mthatha Bucks in their backyard. Cape Town All Stars have shown inconsistency, mixing draws and wins with losses recently. We’re backing the Lions of the North to continue their dominance with a confident home win.
Mbombela United 8/10 | Draw 22/10 | Uthongathi 33/10
Mbombela United are hot on the heels of the PSL play-offs, riding a four-match unbeaten run. Last week’s solid goalless draw against promotion hopefuls Stellenbosch shows their grit. Uthongathi are resilient with three unbeaten games, but Mbombela’s form and home advantage should see them through. Our tip: back Mbombela to take the spoils.
Richards Bay 21/10 | Draw 37/20 | Black Leopards 13/10
Richards Bay’s season has been tough, with only one win in 14 games and a recent losing streak. Black Leopards, however, have recovered well, climbing to ninth after a four-game unbeaten stretch. Expect the visitors to secure an easier victory.
Royal Eagles 13/10 | Draw 18/10 | Ubuntu Cape Town 22/10
Royal Eagles are struggling terribly, rock bottom and seeking salvation with coach Kostadin Papic returning for a third stint. Ubuntu Cape Town are also fighting hard to avoid relegation. Given the Eagles’ coaching shake-up and home ground boost, we’re backing them to sneak the win.
Tshakhuma 12/10 | Draw 2/1 | Super Eagles 22/10
Tshakhuma’s 5-1 defeat at Real Kings saw them drop to seventh with mixed recent form. Meanwhile, Super Eagles have held steady, recently beating struggling Richards Bay to stay clear of relegation concerns. This should be a tight and tactical game, with a likely draw and Super Eagles salvaging a valuable point away.
University of Pretoria 1/1 | Draw 2/1 | Real Kings FC 28/10
University of Pretoria are strong title contenders sitting third, four points behind leaders. They bounced back last week with a 2-1 win over Cape Town All Stars. Real Kings, known for defense, boosted morale with a 5-1 win against Tshakhuma. Our call: back the home side for victory.
Witbank Spurs 15/10 | Draw 39/20 | Stellenbosch FC 17/10
Witbank Spurs have drawn five straight matches, dropping crucial points. Stellenbosch are eager to rebound after a recent draw and remain unbeaten in their last four. Expect Stellenbosch to edge this contest.
Sunday 17 December
Jomo Cosmos 11/20 | Draw 23/10 | Mthatha Bucks 6/1
Jomo Cosmos trail Highlands Park by four points, unbeaten in seven (five wins, two draws). At home, they’re unbeaten all season, looking to tighten their grip on the promotion race. Mthatha Bucks have struggled without a win in six games, with five losses away. We expect Cosmos to comfortably claim three points.
QUAD @ 14/1
  • Highlands Park Win 11/20
  • Black Leopards Win 13/10
  • Stellenbosch Win 17/10
  • Jomo Cosmos Win 11/20
