Race 2: O’ KEEFFE(7)
Jockey: Akshay BALLOO – Trainer: Willem A NEL

This ten furlong handicap looks wide open and might lack a strong pace, but the lightly weighted O’KEEFFE has great potential to improve on her promising recent run at this distance. She was narrowly beaten by a determined frontrunner last time out, and the third-placed horse from that race went on to win at PE. This four-year-old, who races lightly, will be fitter today and benefits from having her apprentice jockey aboard again, solidifying her chances.

Race 5: SAIL SOUTH(2)
Jockey: Greg CHEYNE – Trainer: Brett CRAWFORD

This Pinnacle Stakes is stacked with top-class runners. Most are here as preparation for the summer season, but expect a thrilling finish. The seasoned campaigner CAPTAIN AMERICA is fresh after an outstanding season with his second Grade 1 win. However, he was recently beaten by his stablemate SAIL SOUTH, who also shone during the KZN winter campaign. Both have impressive course and distance records. Despite the weight favouring CAPTAIN AMERICA, SAIL SOUTH is tipped to take the win.

Race 7: SOMMERLIED(2)
Jockey: Sean VEALE- Trainer: Dennis DRIER

The Drier stable has a strong contender in SOMMERLIED, their clear favourite for the day. The classy daughter of Var boasts an impressive record of four wins in five starts, including a terrific five furlong victory here just under a year ago. Her only loss was at this track where she faded badly – perhaps something was amiss. After a rest, she returned with two tactical wins against tough rivals including Sergeant Hardy and Brutal Force. She’s expected to be highly competitive today despite carrying significant weight.

Race 8: EARTH HOUR(4)
Jockey: Richard FOURIE – Trainer: Paddy KRUYER

The Paddy Kruyer yard looks to be hitting form recently, and the consistent EARTH HOUR could well continue that run today. This four-year-old gelding rarely finishes far back, having competed well in stronger company over this course and distance lately. All eleven of his starts have been here, as if the trainer gave him a break during the Durbanville season. He won his maiden exactly a year ago and looks set for a breakthrough win.

Race 1: CRADLEOFGRATITUDE(5)
Jockey: Aldo DOMEYER – Trainer: Candice BASS-ROBINSON

The Black Belt formline has proven strong and though CRADLEOFGRATITUDE was off-colour in the last contest when tiring late, that run came after a nine-week break. He certainly needed the race. Prior to that, he had a solid run behind a competent horse three weeks earlier and is expected to bounce back fitter today. The bay colt is coming to hand well. MERAKI is an improving, lightly raced inmate from the Ramsden yard who closed strongly last time to finish just over a length ahead of CRADLEOFGRATITUDE. Both horses look set to battle it out in the finish.
