The Hollywoodbets Dolphins bounced back swiftly after their recent RAM SLAM T20 Challenge final loss, turning their eyes to the upcoming Momentum One Day Cup as they gear up to face the WSB Cape Cobras at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead this Thursday.
Though the tough defeat to a dominant Multiply Titans side stung, coach Grant Morgan emphasises the squad’s drive to shake off disappointment and chase glory in the 50-over format this season.
“We won’t dwell on the past – it’s time to regroup and bounce back stronger,” Morgan shares. “After a frank team discussion, we’re focused on what needs to be achieved before Thursday’s game. Our final preparations and opposition analysis are set for Wednesday, and I believe our skills stand strong — it’s all about execution now.”
Adaptability is key with the swift shifts in competition formats, and captain Khaya Zondo is ready to lead his team through tactical tweaks.
“While the core tactics remain consistent, the extended game means we must sustain our plans over longer spells,” says Zondo. “With the Proteas squad announced for their Boxing Day Test against Zimbabwe, we anticipate some teams will reshape, some potentially weakened, others seizing new opportunities.”
This opening Momentum One Day Cup match will see the Dolphins competing without stars Keshav Maharaj, Andile Phehlukwayo, and Imran Tahir, who are with the Proteas or sidelined due to injury, paving the way for promising young players eager to make their mark.
“We’ll certainly feel the absence of these key players, but it’s an exciting chance for emerging talent to rise,” Morgan explains.
After leading much of last season but fading in the final stretch, the Dolphins are keen to storm ahead early this campaign.
“A strong start is crucial,” notes Zondo. “Winning these upcoming matches will relieve pressure for the year ahead and ignite our spirits following the T20 final disappointment.”
