Captain Khaya Zondo shares that the Hollywoodbets Dolphins won’t need any extra motivation as they gear up to host the Warriors at the iconic Sahara Stadium Kingsmead for their thrilling Momentum One-Day Cup clash this Friday in Durban.
This upcoming match kicks off a crucial stretch of three home games for the Dolphins over six days, setting the stage for an intense showdown.
Following the Warriors, the Dolphins will face the Multiply Titans in Pietermaritzburg on Sunday, then wrap up their league phase at home against the formidable bizhub Highveld Lions on Wednesday.
Currently sitting at 21 points, the Dolphins are in a tight race at the top of the table.
While they started the week leading, recent victories by the Titans and the World Sports Betting Cape Cobras have pushed them to third place. However, with a game in hand, the team remains optimistic and determined.
Coach Grant Morgan and captain Zondo are focused on ending the competition on a high note.
“Our squad is highly motivated,” says Zondo. “We’re performing well and are right up there on the log. Everyone’s hungry for success and eager to claim that trophy.”
“I don’t have to do much in terms of motivation. Our focus is to continue delivering strong performances and let the results speak for themselves.”
With the competition heating up, the pressure among the top three will only increase.
Still, Zondo views this as a positive challenge, considering it a privilege that fuels the team’s drive to maintain their impressive standards this season.
“There’s no pressure here, only pride. It’s a privilege that motivates us to keep pushing and uphold the high standards we’ve set. We want to stay at the top.”
Coach Morgan is equally pleased with the squad’s resilience and form heading into the season’s climax.
“For the first time in a while, we’ve won more matches than we’ve lost this season,” the coach comments. “Our squad is nearly at full strength, with only Lwandiswa Zuma sidelined by injury.”
“Notably, Vaughn van Jaarsveld has returned looking fantastic at the nets, which is a massive boost for us.”
“It’s a great position to be in – plenty of fit players in top form. Choosing the team is tough, but that’s why we have selectors, including Khaya, myself, and the assistant coach, working hard to pick the best squad to win.”
On the other end, the Warriors face a tough challenge.
The Eastern Cape side sits second from bottom with only nine points and are embroiled in a tight battle for the fourth semi-final position with the Lions and VKB Knights.
After their clash with the Dolphins on Friday, the Warriors will host the Central Franchise and the Cape Cobras in their remaining fixtures.
