The 2017/18 RAM SLAM T20 Challenge is set to ignite excitement, with the Hollywoodbets Dolphins eager to hit the ground running against the WSB Cape Cobras this Sunday, 12 November, at SuperSport Park Centurion.
After a period of uncertainty due to the postponement of the T20 Global League and Cricket South Africa shifting the domestic T20 competition to early 2018, players now have a golden opportunity to show off their skills in the quickest form of the game before the Momentum One Day Cup begins in late December.
This year’s RAM SLAM promises to be more thrilling than ever, featuring all Proteas stars across the franchises, raising the stakes and adding a compelling edge to the tournament.
The Dolphins squad boasts impressive talent, including Andile Phehlukwayo and the world’s premier T20 spinner, Imran Tahir. With Proteas players alongside Keshav Maharaj, Vaughn van Jaarsveld, Rob Frylinck, Dane Vilas, Morné van Wyk and Khaya Zondo, the team’s depth is formidable.
However, the Dolphins will miss Tahir and Van Jaarsveld for their opening match as injuries still loom over the team.
Coach Grant Morgan shared, “We’re not a team that settles for average. Although we were proud of our fighting spirit during the Sunfoil Series, our focus for this T20 competition is to play more aggressively and control the game rather than always chasing it.”
“We believe we have the tools to dominate, but success depends on everyone stepping up—not just the internationals.
“It’s vital that our solid middle-tier players rise and prove they deserve a spot on the national team if we are to claim the championship,” Morgan emphasised.
Last season, the Dolphins struggled, winning only three of ten matches and finishing fifth, just ahead of the VKB Knights.
Facing the WSB Cape Cobras at a neutral venue presents a fresh challenge, with captain Khaya Zondo keen to see how the teams adapt.
“Neither team has home-ground advantage, so it comes down to who quickly reads and adjusts to the conditions. Both teams are strong, so it should be a tight contest. We’re excited to get out there and show what we’ve got,” said Zondo.
