Our star wicketkeeper, Quinton de Kock, has unfortunately been ruled out of the remainder of the Momentum One-Day International series, as well as the upcoming T20 matches against India, following a serious left wrist injury.
The injury occurred during the second ODI at the bustling SuperSport Park on Sunday. It’s been confirmed that de Kock will need between 2 to 4 weeks to fully recover, which means he’ll miss these vital games.
According to Proteas team manager, Dr Mohammed Moosajee, the details of the injury are quite concerning:
“Quinton sustained a heavy blow to his left wrist while batting in the second ODI on Sunday, leading to intense pain and discomfort.”
“After thorough analysis, we discovered significant bony bruising along with swelling around the tendons. Such an injury means a recovery period of 2 to 4 weeks, ruling him out of both the remaining ODI and T20 series against India.”
“Our Cricket South Africa medical team is focused on having him fit and ready for the critical Test series against Australia next month.”
In light of this, selectors have decided not to call up a replacement for De Kock in the squad. The team remains supportive and eager to see him bounce back swiftly.
