Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe has revealed that when he was younger he used to idolise Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo.
At just 19 years old, Mbappe openly shares that Cristiano Ronaldo, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, was his childhood hero. However, now as a professional footballer himself, Mbappe’s perspective has evolved and the awe he once felt has transformed.
The young French international is set for an exciting challenge as PSG prepare to clash with Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 this February. It’s a golden opportunity for Mbappe to face off against the legend who inspired him.
“Yes it’s true, Cristiano was my childhood idol,” Mbappe revealed in an interview with Marca.
“Meeting him at Valdebebas, Madrid’s iconic training ground, was truly special. Now, as a professional, those childhood feelings have shifted.
“Cristiano is an incredible player, but looking at our squad, we have stars like Neymar who match that level too.
“Playing Madrid at the Bernabeu will be a fantastic experience — something I’ve never done before and I am ready for the challenge.
“We have to prepare thoroughly and have faith in our own abilities.”
