We’re gearing up for the much-anticipated second Test clash between South Africa and India, set to unfold at the iconic SuperSport Park in Centurion from Saturday, 13 January through Wednesday, 17 January.
Thanks to a stellar day four display by Vernon Philander, the Proteas have grabbed a crucial 1-0 advantage in this gripping three-match series against the visiting Indian side.
The challenge now intensifies for India as they move to the pace-friendly Highveld for the forthcoming Tests, kicking off this weekend at Centurion.

Match Betting Odds
South Africa 6/10 | Draw 33/10 | India 7/2
South Africa
The Proteas had to fight hard for their 72-run victory over India in Cape Town. Electing to bat first after winning the toss proved tricky as Bhuvneshwar Kumar caused early trouble. However, Ottis Gibson’s men just managed to hold on, with a decisive partnership between AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis stabilising the innings brilliantly. It was fantastic to see AB back in action, and alongside Faf, they’ve strengthened the heart of the batting lineup.
There are selections to consider. Keshav Maharaj might miss out in favour of a pace bowler given the conditions. Chris Morris or Andile Phelukwayo could fill that slot, while Dale Steyn’s injury means either Lungi Ngidi or Duanne Olivier will return. Ngidi could be favoured for his express pace and ability to extract bounce, having impressed with nine wickets in a recent Sunfoil Series match.
India
The Indian team faces some tough selection calls. It’s puzzling why Rohit Sharma was preferred over Ajinkya Rahane, while Shikhar Dhawan might make way for the in-form KL Rahul, who has been performing consistently across formats. Rahane’s experience abroad is significant, boasting impressive averages in South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia.
Whether Ravichandran Ashwin keeps his spot is uncertain with Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma waiting in the wings. The frontline bowlers Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami have all impressed, and Hardik Pandya is expected to continue as the all-rounder.
Cheteshwar Pujara’s cautious batting has been questioned, but his role in holding the innings together complements the more aggressive players like Kohli and Rahane, giving balance to the batting order.
Verdict: Back South Africa at 6/10!
Many believed Newlands was India’s best chance on this tour, and now, the added pace and bounce in Centurion will pose an even greater test. The Proteas are primed to exploit home conditions brilliantly. Place your bets on South Africa for an exhilarating contest!
