The former athlete has officially revealed the football club he’s signing up with, ending all the global speculation.
US sprint legend Usain Bolt made a buzzworthy announcement via Twitter on Monday, promising to unveil the team he’s joining the next morning at 10am South African time. Rumours were rife about him joining South Africa’s own Mamelodi Sundowns, especially after a visit to the team earlier in the year and the club’s retweet of his teaser announcement. Others speculated a move to Borussia Dortmund, having trained with the German side in recent months. So, who did Bolt pick?
Usain Bolt is set to make his football debut at the iconic Old Trafford stadium, captaining the International Celebrities team in the forthcoming Soccer Aid for UNICEF match against England.
The English squad will be led by the renowned Robbie Williams, who is also a co-founder of Soccer Aid. This exciting match is scheduled for 10 June 2018. Former stars like Will Ferrell, Jack Whitehall, Diego Maradona, and Ronaldinho have featured in previous editions, making the match a major event in charity football.
Robbie Williams shared his excitement, saying, “Reclaiming the title for England this year is going to taste so much sweeter with Usain leading the Soccer Aid World XI.”
Fans might remember that former One Direction members Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson played in the 2016 edition of the match.
Soccer Aid has impressively raised over £20 million for UNICEF since its inception in 2006. The 2016 match ended with England lifting the trophy after a thrilling 3-2 win, highlighted by goals from celebrity Mark Wright and footballer Jermain Defoe.
