Exciting Final Showdown Awaits: Reserve Day to Decide MODC Champion | Hollywoodbets Sports Blog

Rain intervenes at Kingsmead with covers pulled across the field

An electrifying thunderstorm at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead brought Friday’s Momentum One Day Cup final between the Hollywoodbets Dolphins and the Warriors to an abrupt pause, pushing the thrilling conclusion to the reserve day on Saturday. This intense battle will determine the 2017/18 50-over champion.

The Warriors won the toss on Friday and opted to bowl first, a decision vindicated early when they dismissed the in-form Morné van Wyk for six. Colin Ackermann then sent SJ Erwee back to the pavilion after 13 runs.

Difficult moments for the Dolphins continued as Dane Vilas was run out for three, leaving their score at 48/4. Sibz Makhanya was soon given out LBW for a duck.

Senuran Muthusamy teamed up with Vaughn van Jaarsveld to forge a solid partnership, adding 41 runs for the fifth wicket before van Jaarsveld was caught at mid-on for 42 off 57 balls.

Muthusamy battled on bravely, scoring a resilient half-century as he and captain Keshav Maharaj put on a vital 32 runs for the sixth wicket. Maharaj was then bowled by Ayabulela Gqamane for 20 runs from 24 deliveries.

Just as Muthusamy and Rob Frylinck were reviving the innings with a 33 run partnership, rain descended on Kingsmead, halting play with the Dolphins on 154/6 in the 40th over.

When the rain came to an end, play was called off with Muthusamy unbeaten on 53 and Frylinck on 12.

The much-anticipated final will resume on Saturday, 03 February, with action commencing at 13:30, promising an exciting finish to the tournament.
