Proteas pace sensation Kagiso Rabada is gearing up to appeal against a two-match ban, a consequence of accumulating eight demerit points under the ICC’s disciplinary system.

Following careful consideration and legal counsel, Rabada has decided to take the step forward with the ICC to arrange a date for his Judiciary commission hearing.

The fiery fast bowler dominated the recent clash at St George’s Park, clinching the man-of-the-match title by taking 11 crucial wickets, helping South Africa draw the series level against Australia.

The ban stems from an incident where Rabada made contact with an opposing player; after dismissing Steve Smith on day one, he brushed past the batsman which led to two demerit points.

The ICC confirmed the appeal via social media, stating: “ICC confirms that Kagiso Rabada has appealed the Level 2 breach following the incident with Steve Smith during the Port Elizabeth Test. A Judicial Commissioner will be appointed soon, with hearing details announced in due course.”

Proteas captain Faf du Plessis stands firmly behind Rabada, asserting his belief that Rabada did nothing wrong, though he did mention in the post-match press conference that Rabada might need to tone down his wicket celebrations moving forward.

Rabada’s disciplinary history includes a one-Test suspension during last year’s England series after a verbal confrontation with Ben Stokes. Additionally, he received another demerit for his send-off towards David Warner during Australia’s second innings in Port Elizabeth. Meanwhile, Mitchell Marsh picked up a demerit for directing a string of expletives at Rabada on the fourth morning of the match.
