On loan Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek might unfortunately be sidelined for the rest of the season and the upcoming FIFA World Cup due to an ankle injury.
Having joined Crystal Palace on loan for the season, the 21-year-old midfielder quickly caught the eye, even earning his England debut back in November.
However, since December 28, Loftus-Cheek hasn’t graced the pitch for Palace after initially sustaining what was thought to be a minor ankle injury.
It now seems the injury could be more serious than first expected and might require surgery, putting his return in jeopardy for several months, likely ruling him out for the season’s remainder.
“The injury is more severe than we originally thought, or perhaps hoped, it would be,” said Palace boss Roy Hodgson.
“I would be very disappointed, surgery or no surgery, if he’s not playing before the end of the season.
“We certainly want him to be and I would presume Chelsea want him fit as well, hoping he can represent England, but there’s not much we can do.
“The only way he can be available to Crystal Palace or England is by being fit and, at the present moment, he isn’t.”
